Fish Varieties

There are many varieties of "Goldfish", but all originated from the same species, carassius auratus. Below is a brief description of the main types of fish that we carry at Mt. Parnell.

Comet A long-bodied, red-orange colored fish with a straight, flowing tail.

Sarasa Comet The same body conformation as the comet, with distinct red and white coloration.

Shubunkin Similarly shaped as a comet, with a bluish color and spots of yellow, orange, blue and black.

Fantails All fantail fish have a shorter, more round body with a split, double fan-shaped tail.

American Fan
A red-orange colored fantail.

Calico Fan A multi-colored fantail, including blue, orange, white and copper colors.

Calico Telescope
Colored the same as Calico Fans, with    protruding eyes.

Black Moor
A velvety black fantail with protruding eyes.

Sarasa Fan A red and white colored fantail.

Red Cap
Primarily a white fantail with a red growth on top of the head.

Fantail Nymph These fish have the body of a fantail, but have not
developed the double tail characteristic.

In addition to the many varieties of Goldfish that we offer, we also offer the following varieties of fish.

Koi
(Scientific name cyprinus carpio) Koi come in many varieties. We offer Standard Koi along with a Select Koi (a premium grade). We also have the Long Fin Koi (Butterfly Koi) available in both Standard and Select grades.

Catfish
(Scientific name ictaluras punctatus) We carry both albino (gold) and blue channel catfish.

Rosy Red Minnow
(Scientific name pimephales promelas) Pink mutation of a fat head (tuffy) minnow.

Tadpoles (Scientific name rana catabiensa) Our tadpoles are bullfrog tadpoles.

These are the major types of fish offered by Mt. Parnell. We do have some more exotic types, such as Lionheads and other varieties of Orandas available on a limited basis, and we're presently working to expand upon production of these established bloodlines.
