Earl & Helen Rice
|
Mt. Parnell Fisheries is located in beautiful south-central Pennsylvania, at the
base of the mountain for which the farm is named. Founded in 1923 by Earl A. Rice, Mt. Parnell Fisheries is fast approaching 80 years in the ornamental goldfish business.
Earl Rice purchased 3 earthen ponds in the early 1920's and steadily grew the business to a total of ponds until he passed away in 1958. His son Richard |
| had been working with him for 6 months and at Earl's passing, he stepped into the position of manager for the family corporation. At that time, Richard jokes, "I had 3 customers and 3 employees."

| A
Rice Family Tradition
In 1993 the hatchery reached a very special milestone. Celebrating 70 years in business, the anniversary had special meaning to Richard Rice. His father had managed the operation for the first 35 years, and he was in charge for the next 35 years. He continued to expand the operation, and when passing on the reins to his son Mike in 1998, Mt. Parnell had approximately
300 ponds at 4 locations, 25 employees (these |

300 years of experience!) and about 75 customers worldwide. Approximately 75% of our fish are shipped by airfreight.

Commitment
to quality
|
|
Much has changed over the years from delivery methods to spawning techniques. The most recent development, as far as production at Mt. Parnell is our state of the art "closed system". Although it will probably never entirely take the place of extensive fish culture at Mt. Parnell, we do feel that it will continue to play a more important role as each year passes.
While Mt. Parnell has been an industry leader in implementing the various changes that have taken place through the years, one thing that has not and will not be sacrificed is our commitment to quality.
